2FATladies.jpg Okay the trip is winding down and it is now time for the fond farewell meal. Really it is the first of many farewell meals. But you MUST put this on your places to go and eat. Now the Cousins called it updated traditional Scotish food but, I'm told by my traveling companion that they never had food like this growing up on Colven Street. Even "The Chippy Doon the Lane" was more like food she had had and they served deep fried Haggis.(The only way I know to eat Haggis)Fat_Ladies.jpgSo if you are ready to enjoy an evening with loved ones....give Des a call or email and he can set you up. We were so surprised that we were not the only party of 12 they had that night. And they never faultered in their service. Check out their website for the menu and I know we will be back to see Two Fat Ladies Raw as I'm sure it will fit into our diet.

My last entry will be after we leave....I can't believe the trip is winding up. Always leave them wanting more is what Edna Belle would say.

You know you are going to have to do some walking if you come to Scotland. And the streets of Glasgow have plenty to see and do. As I been telling you the weather has been fantastic so all sorts of people are out and about. You should see the height of the heels that these woman wear when walking over the slate and cobblestone streets.high_heels.jpg I am guessing they are not interested in the buildings that are a must see in Glasgow. Now we are not talking about the Goverment or University buildings or even the museums...because they are all there to see. I won't even list all the must go to places because other sights have done them well. You can get caught up in the banks that are now dress shoppes or the vast number in Merchant City. I have to say that the any location in Merchant City would be great to have as your home base. And there are plenty of places to eat and drink. But if you are wanting a familiar fast food chain.....with a great building to boot ....June2010iphone_050.jpgAlthough for tonight we are off to The Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery.

The trip to Glasgow was designed to visit with family and so a cookout was planned for Sunday. You can tell we are the optimistic group to plan a BBQ in Scotland in June. But coming from the Texas south coast where we long for overcast days and the Weather people can't guarentee rain even at 50%, we were happy if we could have some. But it appears that the rain had come while we were still hanging out under the comforter this morning. I don't know if we will ever feel really rested with the start of the trip we had and then the wild time in Fallkirk. Also we have no idea what time it is unless we look at the clock. We are both still waking up between 3:30 and 4am. The ear plugs are helping to drown out the city sounds...What is with the street sweepers every few hours? But the shades don't keep out the sun which we have had every day and me without my sunblock. Next time I'm packing a sleeping mask.June2010iphone_013.jpg

Now I have to say that the BBQ spread would have made any Texan proud. I do not believe that there was a vegan among us and I was very fond on the bloodpudding 'n pork sausage. I understand that Kirsty is the one at all the family grilling and is well known even as a wee lass to eat her weight in ribs.June2010iphone_012.jpg

How great to see Linda and Bob. It is hard to believe that it has been so many years since they were in Corpus Christi. You would think that they had just been over to see us and we had followed them back. We happened to meet the two of them after Linda had given us a call to see if we wanted anything brought over from Scotland. What is it with the traveling Haggis and blood puddding. I understand that many a Haggis had been smuggled into the USA prior to laws changing in 2009? Anyway Linda was offering to be one of those Haggis smugglers so we all have become good friends. What a view they have from their new home in Falkirk. I am so glad we took the tour and all before the wine and spirits were poured. Still can't get use to the sun being up at 3:30am and setting around 11pm. Phylis and Nessa were right in there with the rest of us on stories, glasses of wine and good conversation. I think the "Slippery Nipples" were part of their plan as they arrived with the Bailey's. This is the after dinner drink that Linda was taught on one of her trips to the US. I had never heard of doing such a thing with Bailey's but was in for a couple when they were initially offered at 11pm. At 3:30am when the sun was coming up I knew it was time to bid everyone a good night. I am going to make sure to have Bailey's and Sambuca available for those who come to visit the Texas Riveria.....Although Barb it is not blue.June2010iphone_030.jpg

Irn-Bru Chew

OMG the trip is in full swing

semi-overcast 16 °C

Have yet to figure out how to place photos in this blog. 90_June2010iphone_045.jpgJust came back to the flat from a lovely evening at "The Social". Who would have thought the weather could have been so great this coming week in Glasgow. I think the flat in the Merchant City area is the perfect choice for a base as you can get anywhere...by foot, bus, taxi, or train. The night we arrived after 36 hours of travel to get here, we had to wait a bit to gather the keys and get the tour of the flat. Really I have to say we were happy to wait at the local bar steps away although I quickly learned that even though you want to be outside SO are all the smokers. That will be the dilema all week.
Had a great visit @GCU with some OT/PTs who were kind enough to meet with me since I came unprepared. The news that RTA Linda had misfigured the time and would not be setup in time made me catch my breath for a moment. But I do not believe the GCU knew that anything was up. I did forget to bring the gifts for them from the CCRTA but if we don't use them I'll drop them off. The bag is getting lighter. Gone is the Raspberry BBQ sauce, the salsa, flour tortillas and HEB biscuts. We have not replaced them with haggis, blood pudding, scones or tablet. BUT we are on the search for Irn-Bru chews. Tomorrow is another day. We'll have some time before we meet up with Linda from Fallkirk. I hope we see the wheel.....and maybe a ship moving.
